08:23 AM ET 09.28 | The Ontario Reign -- the, ahem, reigning 2011-12 Pacific Division champion -- have announced the signing of former NHL defenseman Paul Mara to the 2012-13 roster. Mara, 33, will don a Reign uniform in his ECHL debut after spending a total of 13 seasons, 734 games, in the NHL between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and Anaheim Ducks. Mara played between the Anaheim Ducks and Montreal Canadiens during the 2010-11 season. ... The 6-foot-4, 210-pound defenseman made his professional and NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1998 after being chosen by the club in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
