08:26 AM ET 09.28 | Credit Leo Komarov for inviting the comparisons. The new Toronto Marlies forward has selected sweater No. 87 -- a bold move given that Sidney Crosby was the only player in either the AHL or NHL to wear it last season. An agitator on the ice, Komarov is bound to hear about his number from opponents. "I don't really care," he said Thursday after the Marlies opened training camp. "It's my choice and it's my number. I wouldn't take 99, but it doesn't really matter if you've got 87 or 10 or something like that. It's like whatever, dude." In Komarov's defence, he also wore No. 87 the past three seasons while playing for Dynamo Moscow in the KHL. [Unlike Crosby], Komarov doesn't have any superstitious reasons for sporting it.

Is That Your Lucky Number, Bro?

And he banks at the same place as Gordie Howe. How could Burkie not sign him?

He apparently has one though....if he doesn't act like an idiot, he doesn't keep his job

I guess this proves to the non-believers that Toronto actually does have a hockey team.

How dare someone besmirch the sacred number 87. The hockey gods will surely reign fire and brimstone down upon this malefactor. Now if he had picked 24 . . . . . .

"I wouldn't take 99" ... well, um, good...because you can't. It's retired league-wide. Is this guy even going to get past roster cuts?

The Leafs named Rick St.Croix as their new goaltending coach. Once they answer the obvious question ("They hired who?"), their fans can start planning a Stanley Cup parade down Younge St. again.
