Lidstrom leaves little doubt

08:33 AM ET 09.28 | Up until the end of this summer, Nicklas Lidstrom's life had been as it has for years -- then he returned to Detroit to retire. Has it been easy? For now, yes -- but Lidstrom knows that when the NHL starts playing again, reality will hit him square in the face like an errant puck. Is he worried about second-guessing himself when that happens? Not one bit. "I am clear with my decision to retire," Lidstrom, who leaves the ice as a four-time Stanley Cup champion and seven-time Norris Trophy winner, told NHL.com. "I was very comfortable once we got home to Sweden. A few weeks went by and I didn't have the urge to get back to skating again, being a part of a team, preparing for another season. I am very comfortable with my decision."

You Were Done A While Ago, Bro.

The real winner here is Dan Cloutier as he's back with the Canucks as a goaltender advisor but he had to wait for Nik to retire just to be safe.

He retired cause he's washed up and nobody wanted him........is it a coincidence that he won his first Norris trophy in Bourques last season ?? I THINK NOT.

Bourque > Lidstrom

Actually, he was better than Lidstrom. Not by much, but by virtue of Bourques physical play (something Micholas wasn't into) and statistical advantages almost across the board, he was. The Bruins haters will never admit it, but no sweat.

I like Lidstrom and his game, but I think we could all agree that his last Norris Trophy was as big a joke as the kid from Ottawa who can barely skate backwards winning it last year. Jeez, he couldn't even muster up a + rating.

It was a make up for the delay in giving Nick his first one, when they foolishly gave it to McInnis and Pronger instead.

I almost agree with this.

I would be hard pressed to decide between the two if given a choice and ages were equal.

Good call. :-)

I stopped paying attention when they gave it to Randy Carlyle in 1981.
