08:19 AM ET 09.29 | Twenty three days after being struck in the head by a line drive, Brandon McCarthy is back in the Athletics dugout. Twenty four days after, he'll throw a baseball. McCarthy says he plans to be in uniform alongside his teammates for the final two home series, and he was cleared by doctors Friday to pick up a baseball on Saturday. "Now I can be in the dugout. I can be around the game atmosphere again," McCarthy said. "I think it's really what I need to get my mind off everything." McCarthy, who had two hours of surgery to stabilize an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture, is miraculously planning his normal offseason regimen in Dallas. It is typically four weeks after such an injury before any exertion is recommended. McCarthy expects to push the limits and test himself in the next week.

That was scary as hell. I hope this guy makes it all the way back.

I hope it doesn't make him afraid to step on the mound. A lot of guys wouldn't be able to have the same confidence after a blow like that.

i wish him the best, its just to sad when that type of accidents happen to a players, just hope he is better with the time, any injury at any other part except the head its too fragil, a broken bone in the leg, or the arm shoulder but a head injury its just too tough to ignored!!

the best rewards for the player,, would be been in the playoffs, a goal who nobody expected at all,,,

it would had been nice if,, the A's could beat the rangers two out of three in the finale in the A's stadium,,, and if the angels could play their best games against the rangers this weekend at the rangers home that would had been awesome!!

this pitcher has alot of heart,,, not too many players with head injuried would have been so lucky,,,, and be able to overcome the adversal outcome from this inccident!!!

Sometimes it pays to be competitive and push the limits; a head injury isn't one of those times.
