08:34 AM ET 09.29 | The Braves honored Chipper Jones prior to their game against the New York Mets. There were several speeches and a video tribute during the half-hour ceremony. Jones embraced every second of it. But it was all a little too much. Early in his comments during the ceremonies, he said, "We've got some business to take care of tonight." But by the time the game started, he later admitted, "I was an emotional wreck. I was overwhelmed. A little too overwhelmed." He said he couldn't feel his arms. He couldn't feel his legs. The last time he felt like this? "Probably when I was rookie."

Chipper's pretty good, but I am tired of him being compared to all-time greats. He just ain't.

Wiseup: I am not a braves fan, however Chipper Jones is a class act.Ihave never seen him show up a pitcher when he hit a HR, or throw a teammate under a bus. I have never seen him challenge the manager about not starting or taken out for a PR. I agree that he should be a first time ballot for HOF in 5 years. If not the writers that vote should turn in their credentials.

Wiseup: Chipper jones is is a true profeesional in all sense of the word. He has never been suspected of roids. A throw back from the days when players relied strictly on their talent.

As a Mets fan I hated Chipper with passion as he was a thorn in our as from the day he hit the field...On that note he is and was always a class act. Most of my hate was due to jealousy. I wish he was on my team for the last 19 years....Should be a a first ballot HOFer.......

Concur on the class act. And yes - one of the best switch hitters to ever play the game - and thus also one of best period. Not the best - but a definate HoF'r

Jones was an average defensive 3rd baseman, on his career hit 304/401/530
By comparison Mantle hit 298/421/557. Played one game at 3b (in 1952), made 2 errors, and was an outfielder after that.
Eddie Murray: 287/359/476, an above average 1st baseman.
I would say Jones is comparable to Mantle, and better than Murray. All 3 belong in the HOF.

One of the few class acts with a Hooters Girl scandal in his background. And maybe the only all time great with less than 500 Hrs, less than 3,000 hits. It wouldn't be too hard to rattle off 50 players better than Chipper all time. BUT he is a hall of famer.
He did milk this farewell year for all it's worth. Bye already.

L-A-R-R-Y Jones may have turned in a "Class Act"-19-year career and could wind-up in Coopertown in 5-years... But he still only be the 2nd best 3rd basemen in Brave history to the Great Eddie Mathews #41
Wowowee!!
