Will Dolphins add veteran receivers?

09:02 AM ET 09.30 | After the Chad Johnson debacle, word is the Dolphins don't want any more receivers surrounded with drama (such as Plaxico Burress) and haven't found anyone (Jabar Gaffney included) they consider clearly better than Legedu Naanee (no catches) and Anthony Armstrong (three drops, four catches) to motivate them to eat Naanee's or Armstrong's contracts. That could change with another bad game. Chris Chambers, 34, has considered a comeback and said Jeff Ireland asked him during the summer if he was ready to run routes (he wasn't) and would have given him a tryout out of respect. By the way, two of the receivers the Dolphins chose not to pursue this past offseason ( Reggie Wayne, Brandon Lloyd) rank in the top six in NFL receptions. And two others - Vincent Jackson and Jacoby Jones ranks among the leaders in yards per catch (20.4, 18.9).

Looking at their roster and at the four less than mediocre wR they have under contract for next year, the only thing he can do is look at 31 other practice squads and pick a couple of WR and put them on the team. Maybe Ireland will get lucky. He needs a lot of luck to keep that job.

He Jeff, some nice people just moved in next door. If you swing by they have some boxes they'd be willing to let you have. No way you keep that cushy job past this season.

This information on the Dolphins wide receivers does not inspire confidence.

Pathetic saga and it continues. Dolphins need shakeup at management level - and probably a new owner - to win.

Sometimes "you reap what you sow" when you're acting with your "best intentions". Make no mistake, I'm all for the "character guys" in the locker room, but I think the Dolphins organization was more concerned with getting a message out and making examples than they were with putting together a competitive football team. Still, Rome wasn't built in a day, so maybe these are just the baby steps towards a greater reality. As I'm not a fan nor a detractor, my only interest in this is seeing how it plays out... Both short and long term.

Probably lots of them. They just don't have any talent, either.

At this stage of the season there are 3 ways to go--1) hope your scouts spotted someone who was overlooked and cut by another team, 2) look for a team that is loaded at WR and hope their discards might be better than your starters, or 3) look for a team that has cut good receivers in the past, and hope they have done it again.

Or option 4, wait 'til next year.

He might want to leave out the part about being the Dolphins GM. It's not likely he'll get anther GM job anyway.

Good point. It seems like the only players they have that anyone else would covet are in their starting line-up, and they really need to stay there. Their draft choices are likely to be valuable, but they should hang on to those.
