Pirates' worst season in decades of futility

08:12 AM ET 10.01 | As Pittsburgh completes one of the great second-half collapses, plenty of blame can be shared in the clubhouse. The starting pitching, so good for four-plus months, stunk down the stretch. If you want to blame one guy the most, blame James McDonald. The bullpen, just as good as the starters through the first week of August, stunk down the stretch. If you want to blame one guy the most, blame Jason Grilli. The offense, which hit lights out in June and July, stunk down the stretch. If you want to blame one guy the most, blame [Andrew McCutchen]. ... Where does this season rank among the 19 before it in terms of futility, failure and -- most of all -- frustration? I'm thinking it's the worst.

.....glass half empty kind of writeup....bucs are better this year than last.....will be better next year for having gone thru this pain....

They did the same thing in 11 and faded. Either the NL can change the season to 120 games for the Bucs or they will be pen pals with the Cubs every year.

And the owners made a lot of money.

What's not to like?

Up to the Allstar break everyone was saying the Bucs where the team to beat in the NL Central.......So much for the Sports Ill. baseball gurus predictions.

c'mon, it was all smoke and mirrors early on. McDonald was great but then reverted to form. Grilli came out of nowhere and is heading back that way. They're still a year or two from having those good young pitchers down in AA and AAA come up and make the real difference. And on the plus side, they didn't trade any of their better players in the annual Pirate Summer Sale this year.
