Rebuild effort may cost Tracy's job

08:12 AM ET 10.01 | Bill Geivett now holds most of the cards in Denver. A meeting this weekend in Denver between [Geivett], the Rockies' director of major-league operations, and manager Jim Tracy will go a long way in determining not only whether Tracy returns, but the coaching staff and the club's direction. Rockies owner Dick Monfort said Sunday that no decision has been made on Tracy's future. He pointed to Geivett's discussion with Tracy this weekend as the important factor. Tracy has indicated he would like to return ... but his status has become increasingly uncertain following the worst season in Rockies history and the team's new front- office alignment. Tracy's future hinges almost solely on Geivett's recommendation.

wiseup: since Rockies were in playoffs,They have steadily digressed. Unfortunately the rockies have been bitten by the DL bug this year. last year they were healthy but still not relevant. It is time for a change. I think Tracey may land a job elsewhere.

Hard to read office politics from a distance. Was Tracy excessively loyal or supportive of someone Geivett beat out? Or did he back the eventual winner? Or just remain aloof from the fray? I suspect those are the relevant questions (and other similar questions), because Tracy's on-field performance was neither brilliant nor awful.

I think you mean "regressed" not "digressed."

The Rockies problems start and end with owners, Dick and Charlie Monfort. The idiotic statement last Spring that Dan O'Dowd is the best GM in baseball is all you need to know about the ineptness of the organization. O'Dowd should have been fired years ago. Who knows if Tracy could manage a ball club with major league talent? He hasn't had that chance. The Rockies pitching is a pathetic joke, most of the starters wouldn't make the AAA team of a competent organization.
But Coloradans keep buying tickets to games (three million every year) and the Monforts keep putting millions of dollars in their pockets. STOP GOING TO GAMES until these losers sell the team! Unless you want to see an endless succession of 100 loss seasons.

This team was absolutely terrible this year. He has to assume some of that blame.

He hasn't shown that as a manager, he's a difference maker.

The Rockies were clearly in rebuild mode. He needs to stay and let this line up play out, because in a few years it could a World Series contender. Even the pitching staff is relatively young. I mean, Francis was the vet of the rotation. The Rockies need some time and a few other pieces like a dominant closer, a solid fifth starting pitcher, and a first baseman. I realize Helton will be back, or might be back, but his role should be to come off the bench and rally the young guys. But, I certainly love the youth. Rutledge will great. Pacheco and Colvin show promise. And, Rosario SHOULD win rookie of the year. With Tulo, Cargo, and Dex as the leaders of this team, the Rockies just need a bit of time. So, why not keep the manager in place to groom their progressions. I mean, Tracy knows baseball. He is great strategist and he is patient. I don't think sending him packing for a new manager would do any good for the amount of young players on this team, and stability at manager would be better than a new manager.

agree 100% with mishagothe and ABroncosTale. we need to bring in the right players and keep them healthy before Tracy can be solely to blame.
