08:23 AM ET 10.01 | The aggravated and aggrieved NHL player now has its hero, and its signature screed. In an emotional 26-post rant on Twitter Saturday night, written over some drinks in Grand Bend, Ont., NHL tough guy Krys Barch highlighted the concerns of the blue-collar pro in a simple way the league big-wigs, union kingpins or the stars heading to Europe never could express. ... "The system allows the owners to continually take money from the players' contract after contract where eventually over 40-some years, the owners will have 80 % of the revenue." Barch bared his soul about his concerns of the road that lies ahead. He has two sons and his wife is pregnant with a third child.

Canuck eh?

I suspect we'll get a lot of threads like this during the lockout.

I don't know why we can't get more than one thread a day on this subject. Maybe he could go to practice with Wild players and tweet while skating? Now, that would be a thread worth maybe 1 and 1/2 comments a day. Maybe even more?

I tend to agree in principle with a lot of what he says about how the cream gets the big $ and the rest get much less. Especially since much of that cream is off in Europe still playing.
But somehow a 2 year $1.5 million contract to be marginal doesn't mek me want to shed tears for him.
And the owners do put up the money for all this.

Actually, it's the fans who put up the money for this. Without the fans buying tickets, merchandise, tv packages, etc, there is no team for the owners to own or the players to play for.

Fans may pay to watch. But owners drive the process. You need their deep pockets.
I pay zilch for the privelege of watching hockey.
And at games, you don't see many non corporate season ticket holders any more.

Sure the owners drive the process and the players provide the entertainment, but when 75% of your revenue comes from gate receipts, I'd say the fans have quite a bit to do with the success (or lack of) the league has.
I didn't realize you still watched tv with a roof antenna. I thought all analog transmissions stopped.
As for corporate season ticket holders, there are some in Philly but I would estimate less than half of the seats are taken up by these people (not included suites and club boxes). The whole upper section of the Wachovia Center is populated by regular season ticket holders as is some of the lower section.

The $ I shell out for cable are not exclusively for hockey. I place more importance on HBO and such.
In fact aside from the last month of season and playoffs it isn't on that much.
I'd never pay for Centre Ice. But I willingly tack on extra for Sunday Ticket.
And you should attend a Canucks game. Long past the days when most everybody was a casual fan, many with multiple season tickets. My sister used to have 2 of her own and her friends had 4 more all in a group.
They now share 2 seats much higher up amongst the 6 friends. And are considering stopping that.
Yahoos like my brother are the norm now, sitting in company boxes or seats, "clients" along side.
More and more the real "fans" are excluded from the whole process.
I don't begrudge the owners a return on their investment. And I do feel sorry for the marginal guys who are not playing now (even for a paltry $1.5 million) because their careers will not be long and stellar and they don't get the opportunity to play elsewhere.

Krys Barf needs to buy a brain somewhere. He's a very marginal player who should be grateful of being allowed the honor of setting foot on an NHL sheet of ice.

The motorhead slags the league for southern expansion during his drunken twitterfest. Ironic when one considers that without southern expansion he would never have made an NHL roster ????
