08:24 AM ET 10.01 | Perhaps the comeback of a former Islanders star may help dig the franchise out of trouble. Pat LaFontaine has been contacted by some European investors about the possibility of buying the money-losing team and keeping it on Long Island, The Post has learned. ... [LaFontaine]is intrigued by the opportunity and may look to put together some sort of bid, sources said. Islanders owner Charles Wang, who is seeking a new arena and has vowed not to play a single game at the aged Nassau Coliseum beyond the July 2015 end of his lease, has quietly let it be known that he is willing to sell the franchise if the price is right, sources close to the NHL said. Unfortunately for LaFontaine ... that price is said to be a sky-high $300 million.

The Winnipeg Jets cost $170 million, including relocation fee, and Wang Chung wants $300 mil for the damn Islanders?!

European investors? I wonder how much LaFontaine could really help. Do any of the younger fans today remember him from his playing days?

True. They aren't as enticing as the Coyotes for sure. Maybe if they were to move to a hotbed of hockey, like, oh, say.............Bug Tussle, Oklahoma?

You're implying the Isles have "younger fans". Or "fans", for that matter.

I would sooner be in Bug Tussle than many other places.

Absolutely correct. Me too. I think Carl Albert, former Speaker of the House was from Bug Tussle. Not sure if that's a recommendation though. :-)

Wang Chung can't be too serious about selling the Isles if he's asking for $300 mill.

If the Euros want to own an NHL team, they should make an offer on the Phoenix Coyotes with the promise they'll move them to Sweden.

300M seems a little steep, unless the arena comes with it.
