07:59 AM ET 10.02 | The leash is getting shorter for Matt Cassel. Romeo Crennel again said Monday that Matt Cassel will be the starting quarterback for the Chiefs when they play Baltimore on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. But Crennel also left open the possibility that backup Brady Quinn could play against the Ravens. ... [Crennel] laid out in general terms what it might take for him to bench Cassel and replace him with Quinn. "At some point, as a coach, you go through and you see what's happening in the game and how a guy is reacting and how he's responding to what's happening in the game," Crennel said. "If you feel he's inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that's when you move on from him and give someone else a chance."

I wonder if Rex Ryan is reading this?

Startling parallels with yesterday's Jets stories. An overweight coach, a starter who isn't performing and a backup who played in Denver last year.

I don't think Chief's fans care who replaces him, they just want to see Scott Pioli's guy benched. It's personal now. Anything that shows that Pioli made a mistake is a win for KC fans.

The Chiefs would be smart to run the ball against Baltimore, and hopefully not put much onto the shoulders of their QB, whomever it may be

Kind of scary. And I never thought I would say this, but both teams whiffed on picking up the best backup out of Denver. Kyle Orton would be an upgrade for either of these teams right now. KC had him, but let him get away.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Orton comes off the bench to salvage Dallas's season?

I always liked "Bart Starr" myself. Could have been a quarterback or a singing cowboy.

Lets see if I got this right. The coach is behind you as long as you make good decisions, play smart, react to the game properly and are not inept.
That's basically saying you believe your QB is capable of all these things and needs to stop them or else. And against the Ravens?
At least the guy was given the chance to show his stuff.
