Learning curve tough on Oates

08:24 AM ET 10.02 | Even before the curve ball that is the lockout set in, Adam Oates had a tall order. [Oates] began familiarizing himself with the team's NHL roster. He watched hours of tape, made introductory phone calls and took notes on each player's style of game. He didn't necessarily focus on the organization's overall depth, though. So in addition to offering a chance for him to work behind a bench during the lockout, Oates's role as co-coach of the Hershey Bears provides him with a crash course in personnel. "I'm still learning the guys' names, that's the tough part," Oates said [Monday]. ... "You want to explain something and I've got to think for a second, 'Who is it?' That frustrates me because I'm not insulting them."

Ah, months of threads about coaches who can't remember their players names. Let the excitement begin.

God I hope not. Those guys are from Philly. Probably two off-key Flyers fans.

Nast's have been playing just so-so lately but I was still happy to clinch the division. Last time we played in the post-season was 1933! Even I don't remember that. Phillies ended up the year doing well but they waited a bit too long to get started. Next April everyone is 0-0 to start though. :)

What? What is in your Geritol these days?? Didnt they get swept by one of the worst teams in baseball down the stretch???

The Nats will be EXPOSed quite quickly in the playoffs...

Oh sure. But they did play a great deal better after the All Star game than they did in the first half. They were so far back by that time they didn't have a real shot at winning the division and only a miracle would have gotten them to a wild-card. Don't misunderstand, like you I root against such teams as the Flyers, Phillies, Eagles and 76ers. But you gotta give the devil (not the NJ types) their due. And, what's the best thing to add to Geritol these days? Don't give that stuff about prune juice either! :)

Their second half of the season win % is just as good as it's been the last several years. Losing to the Astros was rough, but that's not what did them in.

Nowadays it's pronouncing those names that throw me.
