Sheets to start Wednesday, then walk away

08:15 AM ET 10.03 | When Ben Sheets woke up Wednesday morning, it was for perhaps the final time as a staring pitcher. He's not considered a candidate for the Braves' postseason roster, and Sheets said "for sure, 100 percent, I'm not going to play next year." Sheets, 34, was an improbable feel-good story of the summer, signing a minor-league contract with the Braves after being away from baseball for nearly two years following the second of his major elbow surgeries. He was brought up after just two minor league starts and went 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA in his first three starts for the Braves and 4-1 with a 1.41 ERA in his first five, plugging a hole and excelling when the Braves were dealing with a couple of injuries in the rotation.

I'm shocked at Matheny's choice of Lohse for Friday. Kyle has had a great year, but has a horrid post-season track record. He made three starts last year and got shelled in each of them. He was also hit hard in his only start this year at Turner Field.
Wainwright has always had the Braves number.
I don't understand the decision at all..........

He'll be back. After a year of rest, he'll feel great and want to make a come back.

He's 34. It's quite possible he's out of gas and ready to move on to the next stage of life.

That's true....but Adam is 6-1 against them in his career.
Bottom line for me is that Adam has thrived in big games in the past, and Lohse has been horrible in big games and the post-season.
I hope I am dead wrong, but Lohse starting Friday is not the decision I would make if I were Matheny.

I guess you never know in the playoffs, but Lohse is 0-4 with a 5.54 ERA in the post-season for his career. Not comforting numbers.

Hope he has an excellent outing. Braves finally back in the playoffs. That is a good thing. Been a fan of the Braves since they were the Milwaukee Braves.

Hey, if you're heart is not in it then it is time. Even with some fuel left in the tank.

He'll be back, too much money not to. He'd post some pretty good numbers in San Diego and Oakland
