05:12 PM ET 10.03 | While it doesn't come as much of a surprise, it is being reported that the Boston Red Sox plan on firing manager Bobby Valentine immediately following the conclusion of the season. Many close to the situation believe that Valentine will be removed from his duties as soon as Thursday or Friday. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington was reached out to for comment on the situation but he simply replied with a "no comment." The Red Sox have followed up last year's disappointing 7-20 run in September with an equally awful run this season. Boston is 7-21 during September this season and is being outscored 147-83. Valentine has never gelled with the team and their performance on the diamond demonstrates that. Valentine has one year remaining on the two-year deal he signed entering the season but he will not see that contract play out.

THE OAKLAND A's ARE THE WEST DIVISION CHAMPIONS,

the rangers have to wait and see WHO should they have to face,,,is it the orioles? or the yankees?if is the orioles the rangers could have a challenge task to acomplish, but if is the yankees the rangers wouldn't have any difficulty in regained the playoffs berth!!!

i'm very happy for the A'schampion in the west for less, small payroll and uknown rotation except for bartolo and lets not forget McCARTHY who suffered a broken skull in a game against the halos, and anderson who also join the DL, all in all the A's are a team to tip my hat respect and admiration, been able to accomplished so much with such little in their lineup, and in their rotation
BEST IN THE WEST FOR LESS!!!

This is the first I have heard of this.

Why not wait until the middle of the Yankees playoff series to announce the firing?

It's always nice to steal some of the headlines from your rival.

The Red Sox were going nowhere anyway so it isn't a big deal.

I remember...............And I said it was an awful hire as well........

If he isn't fired, soon, there will be a lot of unhappy fans.
Wouldn't be surprised to see ticket sales go down for next season if Bobby is still around.
Time to clean house and rebuild the team.

The Red Sox hit bottom with a thud this year. They were definately the worst team in the AL East and excrutiating to watch, especially in September and October. It was fitting they gave the last start (hopefully forever) to Dice-K. Bobby V's fate is anticlimatic after this slow vomit of a season.

We can hope that the only direction is upward.

The Red Sox and their fans can now enjoy watching the playoffs for a second straight year. Oh, and thanks for overspending badly on Matsuzaka and graciously letting him provide batting practice to the Yankees in his last game. Woo Hah!

Season over.......................AND ????????????????
