Arkansas head coach rumors keep swirling

06:48 PM ET 10.03 | Arkansas Razorbacks interim coach John L. Smith will not be on the short list as an interviewee for the coveted head coaching spot that will become available after the season. The shortlist is speculated to include Butch Davis, who has been rumored to be offered the job, and even Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden. Reports are conflicting about Gruden's interest coaching football in general, but a $5.5 million price tag has been rumored to be his desired price point. Either way, Arkansas is in for a tough job search, as West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen has reportedly already turned down the position.

Yes....he would be worth it. I think he is a very good coach....not sure about the CFB level, but we would have to see...

Had Spurrier stayed at UF instead of bolting for the NFL, I believe he would have built a dynasty at UF that would have cemented his place in the discussion for GOAT in CFB.

His gators were already on top of the SEC. NOW, imagine him still rolling along at UF, as Coach Bowden began to "fade" at FSU, and Miami began to slide... It would have been the perfect storm for Spurrier. He would have been able to to rule recruiting in the state of Florida. If he had stayed at UF until NOW, I can't imagine him having won less than 2-3 NC's, since their '96 Title.

Spurrier will always be remembered in CFB, but IMO, not in the way he COULD have been. It pains me to say this, lol, but I believe Spurrier IS one of the best coaches in CFB history. Because of his decision to abandon the machine he'd built at UF, however, his body of work likely will not match up with the All-Time greats. And that's kind of a shame...
