Has Ovie lost Washington?

08:24 AM ET 10.04 | There was a time it seemed Alex Ovechkin could do little wrong in Washington, D.C. As No. 8 took the ice, grown men squealed like tween girls at a One Direction show. They loved him. But love can be fickle. "Sometimes things change," the 27-year-old left winger says. "I still love them, but maybe they don't love me as much." ... The Caps have made the playoffs five straight seasons -- switching personnel, head coaches and playing styles along the way -- but they have yet to advance past the second round with Ovechkin. His production has dwindled too, from a career-high 65 goals in 2007-08 to a total of 70 over the past two seasons. Some locals have started pointing fingers at the Russian sniper.

Burkie saw Ovie in blue and now has to have his suit pants drycleaned.

We need Slappy and Seabird's take on this.

What nitwit wrote this pseudo-interesting piece of garbage? Of course things change. This is why Carter is no longer President and Ovie is now 27 and not 20.....a 7 year "change" no? One of two things will happen, he'll come back to DC or he won't. He'll be cheered, or he'll be booed. Maybe he could realize his dreams and go to the Wild one day?

all the talent in the world...no leadership or heart...ovie shows time and again that he only plays the game for the money...he doesn't get payed in playoffs so there is no need to show up...

really? he looked pretty fierce in the last playoffs...I'd take him in NY in a heartbeat

or, do what Ray Borque did and get traded to a team that will help you win one. (early tweak)
In case people have forgotten, he has carried this team for a lot of the time...

On a slightly more serious note, I think Ovie is an amzingly talented hockey player. So far it hasn't been translated into a great captaincy for the Caps or the leadership required to advance far into the playoffs. Ovie is still a bit of a kid and immature. Why? Language? An inability to sacrifice some if his own interests in flashy play for the greater good of the team? I don't know. I like him a lot. He can be breath-taking at times. I hope he comes back. But there is no such thing as a one-player team either. If not, I'll survive. After all, the Nats are now in the post-season and that's a great way to avoid thinking of The Dwarf, the Fehrless leader or political ads on TV. Incidentally, can the always amazing ESPN hockey gurus name the locals who are pointing fingers? Some they say? Two? Forty-seven? Do they have names, faces, employees of ESPN?

His 30 goals and 59 points in 51 play-offs games say otherwise dumbass..im not sure where that ranks with his contemporaries but im pretty sure he's near the top in PPG and im pretty sure he leads by a wide margin in team play-off scoring.

But then again he looks like he needs something to kickstart him I'm sure Slappy would offer to do this free of charge

LMAO. I"m lucky to be able to find my way home from the game after it's over. I doubt I can help Ovie. (Or any other player for that matter)! If I tried to motivate Ovie "free of charge" that would be tremendously overpriced :-)

Not to mention getting him a bonafide #1 center who can get him the puck on his tape!

The IDIOT put Semin on the 3rd line and rode him all year down there; shouldve moved him up and let him center Ovi. eh who cares its DC.

Forget Ovie, Washington has lost the citizens of the U.S.
