08:24 AM ET 10.05 | This likely shapes up as bad news for Dee Gordon. With the Dodgers looking at breakout performer Luis Cruz as a potential everyday third baseman next season, Hanley Ramirez could remain at shortstop, General Manager Ned Colletti said Thursday. A lifelong shortstop, Ramirez was moved to third base by the Miami Marlins to make room for free-agent addition Jose Reyes. The Dodgers moved him back to shortstop soon after they acquired him in July. Ramirez's defensive play was uneven, prompting Manager Don Mattingly to say last week that the team would consider switching him back to third base. But in his end-of-the-season address at Dodger Stadium, Colletti said, "If this was the opening of the season, he would be the shortstop."

Ha Ha... First! :-)

Anyway... Just looked at the Dodgers Roster and my original thought was move Gordon to the OF - but they appear set there (barring injury).

However - with names like Punto, Kennedy, Uribe, Ellis, Hairston - they've got an opportunity to get younger at the Utility spot...

Plus - with his pinch running abilities - Gordon could play in all 162 games next year and still lead the Majors in steals.

If they are set on Cruz playing third base next year why not try and move Gordon to second base and therefore they will be getting younger and have a lead off hitter as well.

Its a no brainer . Cruz has earned the right to be next year's starting 3rd baseman , Hanley back to short, and Dee platooning as backup infielder or even try him at second as prior commenter mentioned . Personally I agree with the idea of trying him at second ,Mark Ellis is mediocre with no speed .

There you go.

Ellis is okay at 2nd, but not a star--try Gordon there, get younger; if it doesn't work out, have Eliis on the bench to back him up. This is the kind of problem mangers love.

the dodgers need to get a new manager, and a new GM, after the whole collapse in LA there is no excuse any more in dodgers franchise at all,,

Trade Dee Gordon to the Tigers. Problem salved.

Well, solved too.

wiseup: There is a reason Gordon Hasn't been starting. One word DEFENSE. Instead of an infielder he does a great crouquet wicket imitation.

October 5, 2012  05:43 PM ET

Wiseup: The Tigers are a baseball team ,not a crouquet team. As far as Detroit is concerned ,Dodgers can keep and deal with Gordon. Better yet trade him to Miami. hehehe

wiseup: the Dodgers should keep ramirez right where he has been at SS

His days at shortstop are numbered, he loses concentration on defense, it is what it is!! He would make an outstanding DH. Call Brian Cashman!

Why would a .250 hitter make an outstanding DH?
