03:59 AM ET 10.06 | When giving his state of the team address before the season finale Wednesday afternoon in Miami, one of the Mets beat reporters asked Sandy Alderson when he plans on starting contract extension talks with David Wright and R.A. Dickey. Being witty, the GM responded by "When is the game over?" It made reporters chuckle, but he wasn't kidding when it came to the organization's franchise third baseman. It sounds like the team's top priority this offseason.

The Mets don't have much choice but try to sign Wright to help keep the faith of the fans of the Mets.

You are right, extending with the Mets might not be Wright's top priority.

If Wright signs another Mets contract, then clearly competing for a championship is not on his agenda. David...'tis far better to be third banana on a Series team then the face of a perennial 90 loss Fubar.
