Has Josh Hamilton struck out of Rangers' future?

08:18 AM ET 10.06 | Was it the final curtain for Josh Hamilton as a Ranger? After Friday's 5-1 loss to Baltimore in the AL Wild Card game, the soon-to-be-free-agent said returning to the Rangers was his first choice. But then he said more. Hamilton was booed while going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts and a double play grounder in eight total pitches seen. When asked about the booing, Hamilton said it was "bad, pretty bad." He was asked how he responds to that and Hamilton, who often cites his Christian faith, said something about learning from the bible. The inquisitor asked if that meant turning the other cheek. Said Hamilton: "No. I think about bible verse that says if they don't receive you in town, then shake the dust off your feet and move on." In particular, he was referring to Matthew 10:14, which states: "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet." Hamilton once again returned to saying he did not necessarily want to leave Texas. Hamilton officially becomes a free agent as soon as the World Series ends. The Rangers can now get started on a strategy about whether they want to pursue him or not.

I would sure be afraid to sign this guy to a contract for more than two years. His body is breaking down, he is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, and his mind hasn't been in the game since May.

Before last nights game , he had 6 homeruns and 22 rbi in 33 post season games. Those are very good numbers facing post season pitching. That would average out to around 30 homeruns and 100+ rbi over a full season.

Doesn't Texas' collapse rival Boston's last year? This has to be pretty up there, especially considering that unlike the Red Sox, the Rangers made two consecutive WS and were, for the most part, considered to have improved vastly this offseason. There has to be some pretty unhappy people in Arlington this morning.

Several teams have looked around ant not spotted much free agent talent, other than Hamilton. Texas might have someone on the farm who can replace his bat, though. Olt maybe?

He'll get a decent contract, but he's fragile - both physically and mentally. I sure wouldn't want to put a huge amount of money in the hands of a guy who disappears from time to time.
