John Davidson's big contract led to Blues split

09:49 AM ET 10.06 | John Davidson's departure from the Blues became official late Friday, five months after the team's president sensed the outcome was a strong possibility. Aside from Davidson's personal feelings, there was immediate speculation that the remaining term on his contract, three years and approximately $6 million, was a red flag with Tom Stillman's group. And on Friday, hours after signing an undisclosed buyout, both sides acknowledged the main reason Davidson and the cost-cutting club were parting ways was because of the contract. "It was the issue, there's no question," Davidson said. "Tom and I get along, it's just the contract."
