04:55 PM ET 10.06 | In the NFL, player safety is the No. 1 priority and it's dominating how the game is played. College football is not a whole lot different when it comes to player safety but during today's Virginia Tech-North Carolina game, the players were endangered in a way we haven't ever seen before. Late in the first quarter, Virginia Tech was lining up for a 1st and 10, threatening to enter Tar Heels territory when the officials stopped the game. The reason: a pair of scissors were found on the field by wide receiver Dyrell Roberts.

I've heard of bad things happening at the bottom of the pile, but scissors? That's a little overboard!!!

This sounds like someone is trying to phase in the "football with weapons" idea.

There's always the possibility that they were inadvertantly dropped by someone from either teams training staff...especially if they happened to be tape scissors. Just a thought.
