Ex-Nationals manager Jim Riggleman wants back in

08:52 AM ET 10.07 | Jim Riggleman could have been overseeing the Washington Nationals 2012 season and postseason. That he is not stems from Riggleman's abrupt resignation as manager in June 2011 after he had guided the Nationals past the .500 mark with their 11th win in 12 games. This season, the Nationals put Washington in the postseason for the first time since 1933, when the Senators -- who in 1961 became the Minnesota Twins -- played here. While the Nationals prospered, Riggleman occupied himself managing the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Cincinnati Reds' Class AA club in Florida. It kept him busy, but after two decades of managing and coaching for seven major league teams, he wants to return to that level, regardless of the fact that he walked away. That may not be an easy task. Riggleman's departure from Washington was a stunning and widely criticized move, coming as it did at midseason.

It's one thing to complain about not having a contract for the next season...
But it's something entirely different to Walk Away from a team mid-season.
Good Luck getting back into where you were with that behind you.

More players and coachs should do it. If the GM can't do the real job and sign contracts then that should cause them some pain.

I imagine those long bus rides, cheaper hotels, and less money would get anybody thinking if they had experience the good life of a MLB manager.

Riggleman was a joke as a Major League Manager. I actually feel bad for the Double A team that is undoubtedly being influenced by a **** as commander. Fire his sulking, losing, pandering, ineffective **** We need true leaders leading our future big league studs.

Disagree...
GM was taking a wait & see approach.
As far as Jim goes - he's not the first Manager to be working on the last year of his contract... but he is one of the very few to walk out mid-season.

The Reds have plenty of options If Baker does retire. Riggleman is not one of them. Riggleman might have to accept a coaching position with a MLB team and earn a manager spot in a few years

this guy would be perfect for Colorado. Lets not forget the issue for Riggleman and the Senators, he did a good job there and they didn't want to give him a contract.
