09:21 AM ET 10.07 | Micah Hyde, a three-year starter and captain for the Iowa football team, was arrested early Saturday morning for public intoxication and interference with official acts. Back-up tight end Ray Hamilton and reserve offensive lineman Drew Clark were also charged in separate incidents. Hyde was among a group of people that would not leave Old Capitol Brew Works near closing time early Saturday morning. According to the police report, Hyde was among a group of about 15 subjects fighting with the staff. The officers arrived on the scene as the crowd was breaking up. The staff pointed out which subjects were involved, including Hyde. The police confronted the group at the corner of Bowery and Gilbert St., told them to stop and flashed their lights. Hyde and the rest of the group ignored the command and started running. Police chased Hyde, who was apprehended two blocks away. According to the report, Hyde had "bloodshot watery eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage" and showed 6 of 6 signs of impairment and refused a post arrest breathalyzer. "I was disappointed to learn of the events involving three team members, as all three of these student-athletes have been good citizens during their time in our program," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement released Saturday night. "We will follow protocol set by the UI student-athlete Code of Conduct, as well as taking additional measures within the program."

QUOTE(#3):

Not much elso to do in Iowa City, I think. Underage drinking by collegiates is pandemic. Read somewhere that 72% of college students drink; another article cited campus binge drinkers as being "happier." Football players are just a microcosm of the the student body. Not excusing nor rationalizing their behaviors; just a fact.

Good point. Difference between booze and drugs is that booze is legal if they are of age.

May be against team rules, but if that team rule was strictly enforced by each team........................

If 72% of a population group that is mostly underage are drinking, maybe we should have a serious discussion about laws that seek to restrict choices of individuals.
