Sources: Pressure likely to keep TCU's Casey Pachall off field

09:29 AM ET 10.07 | TCU coach Gary Patterson said he is scheduled to meet with Chancellor Victor Boschini today to decide what course of action to take regarding suspended starting quarterback Casey Pachall. It does not sound as if Pachall is going to be back this season. According to sources, there is intense pressure from the top to uphold this suspension, at the least. So expect Trevone Boykin to be the starter when TCU plays at Baylor next week and hosts Texas Tech the following week. Boykin will improve and the offense will score, but a TCU team without Pachall cannot be expected to beat a Big 12 team other than Texas Tech or Baylor, and neither of those is a guarantee. Even with a cast of receivers who are as talented as any in school history and who at times really bailed out Boykin, no team will be as good without its starting quarterback.

Hard to say if the #2 can improve enough to keep Froggy going, but for sure it won't be as good as with Pachall.

Goes way beyond Pachall. I think I read that TCU has 20 players less than what they had anticipated. Don't know if that is true.

Sadly, you may be correct.

Mornin' Harley. Yes, it all goes back to that series of events...more than just the drug bust. They have the same issues as other teams they just all came to light at the same time. I said last spring they will have a hard time keeping morale up. Just entirely too much to overcome. It would probably be easier if they had a bowl ban such as your bucknuts and PSU and could just wing it.
And, they have trouble in the secondary and offensive line regardless of the off field issues. Those were questionable and got even more so with the events previously referenced.
Believe it or not, I don't think they would be doing any better in the MWC this year...for sure not the Big 12.
They do have a lot of good ones for the future IMHO.

Hey. Yes the drug issue took about 4, injuries took another 4-5, academic took another 2-3. PacBell was roommates with one of the guys in he drug bust in spring, has failed more than one test and has admitted use of the powder and other pills.

Harley, you know these things don't just surface at college. I started to make the case back with the honey badger story.
IMHO, 9 out of 10 of these kids have had issues going back to JH and HS and the adults in their lives coddled them and didn't take care of it at that point. It just doesn't start when they get to college.
Pachall had issues in HS so it ain't new.

DC, this is pretty much the heart of the current problem as I understand it. I read the #20 in an article (most likely the Star Telegram) and I think it included Pachall. It is a cumulative number of players lost from last years team (don't think it includes graduation but don't know and haven't researched) through the present. Guido pretty much covered the general reasons; started with the 4 lost from the drug bust; includes Wesley who left to try and turn pro; several have been lost to academic issues and a number of injuries have also taken their toll. All said and done the same issues every team faces but perhaps not to the same degree.
In the first 4 games GP utilized 15 freshman; don't know if yesterday's game added to that number, but it's safe to say that the current team is very different than what was anticipated in composition. Yeah, I know...stating the obvious. The most disturbing issue, to me any way, is all the turnovers this year which are very uncharacteristic for the frogs in general. Some of it is due to using inexperienced people but even Pachall has been guilty of that as well...most likely just plain carelessness.
In answer to another post I saw, there are no NCAA issues involved and Gary Patterson should absolutely not be fired over this. He is the victim not the cause. From the article, GP will handle Pachall's situation according to what solutions his management will allow. If Pachall doesn't play the rest of the season I think he would most likely enter the pro draft next year but then I don't know anything and that's not what I'm hoping for either. Interesting that DC mentioned Pachall had issues in hs...didn't know that. Disappointing to say the least. In the words of William Bendix, "this is a revolting development".

Fire Gary Patterson and send him over to LSU. We need some help with QB development and offensive play calling. While at it, send over the fine cheerleaders so we can add them to the bevy of beauties already at LSU. The LSU band, cheerleaders and Golden Girls are the best thing going for LSU at this point.
Seriously, why would anyone consider firing or suspending the head coach for the actions of a dummy QB. He cannot follow the young man around 24/7. They acted properly in this case. Hope the QB is not a senior because if he is, his days of playing pro ball are in dire straights. "Money for Nothing and chicks for free" are all gone.

Great win for the Gators!!!! I didn't think they could run on LSU, but damn I was wrong, as usual!!! Very surprised that Georgia didn't drop further in the polls, as South Carolina completely destroyed them, hell Georgia didn't score until under two minute left in the game.

Isn't it the coach who has responsibility for the student athletes that he recruits? He understands the backgrounds of the players he brings in . He knows if they were subject to drugs and he certainly knows their academics. It seems coach needs to recruit better students to represent the university and that is his responsibility.

Other than maybe Texas, UGA is about right in the rankings. Once you get that far down, even with one loss, 4-6 teams are about the same. But they did get that ass whupped. The only thing going for LSU this next week is the game will start at 7pm local, a Saturday nite game in BR. LSU is slipping down that slope, so Les really needs to get his head out of his ass and start being Les "The Mad Hatter" Miles again. Some where, he has lost that.

I did to. I picked them to win in the pick'ems. They must have spent the week reading the headlines, saying how great they were.
