Lakers look to Steve Nash for leadership

09:36 AM ET 10.07 | The Lakers needed a player to take a shot. It wouldn't determine a win. But with their first practice already reaching four hours, the Lakers hardly wanted to stay in the gym any longer and perform running drills. The ticket to freedom: one player needed to make three free throws. Kobe Bryant relishes those pressure moments. But he immediately turned to Steve Nash. "I'll take that 92% free-throw shooting any day," said Bryant. Nash actually shoots 90.4% from the stripe, but the point was well taken. Nash went to the line, sank three shots and allowed his teammates to call it a day. The moment during the Lakers' first practice of training camp on Tuesday epitomized how the team views its new point guard. The Lakers value Nash beyond his fifth-place standing in NBA history in assists (9,916) and his mastery of the pick-and-roll. They also trust his shooting. So much that Bryant touted Nash as "one of the great shooters our game has ever seen." It also showed that a team full of superstars is looking for Nash to lead.

To the NBA players out there that can't shoot free throws...there's a reason it's called the charity stripe...watch and learn (and maybe practice).

does it even matter how good he looks... unless you have Time Warner cable you wont be seeing the Lakers on TV anyways.. even if we buy NBA league pass we still wont see games if you're a local la resident without TWC.. Lakers sold out their fans for the almighty $$ of time warner.... all satellite TV (Dish Net. and Direct TV) viewers will only be seeing games when broadcast on TNT or ESPN... or about 26 games this year.. Shame on you Lakers and the GREEDY Buss family

That makes sense. I do agree with you. But maybe if you took on a few more roofing jobs instead of being on FN so much you would be OK???Poor Dee has to move to Canada to help Pat Riley pay for his Heat superteam!

No its more about how I choose to spend my hard earned money.. in case the NBA didn't realize it yet... we are in a recession .. the economy sux everywhere,,, just tells you how far out of touch with reality these fools are... just like the NHL... they are striking.. and for what?? nobody cares about friggen hockey here?? they act as if the world will end if we don't see them play.. I could give a rats arse if they play...
