What's next for Lincecum?

08:11 AM ET 10.08 | It may not have been easy for Bruce Bochy to tell Tim Lincecum he'd be left out of the NL Division Series starting rotation, but it seemed to make sense for a guy who needed a much-improved second half just to reach double-digit victories. What's next for Lincecum, who turned down overtures for a long-term contract last winter to sign a two-year deal that takes him up to free agency? How will a decision like this impact his preparation, his readiness ... his future? "That's going to be something I'll go over with myself and obviously with my father (Chris) and whoever I think is going to be there to help me immediately in the offseason," Lincecum said. "So right now I'm just working on what I need to be out of the bullpen with what I have."

Come to NY Timmy! The Pinstripes are exactly what you need right now. We'll show you the love you deserve.

The guy had an off year which happens to even the best of pitchers. I think he deserves a little more respect . Would love to see the Dodgers steal him from the Giants ,A rebound year with a highly motivated Lincecum to stick it to his old team .

The answer is easy for the Giants because Tim will find his stuff next season because it is a contract year for him and after that let him go.

It must be kind of a drag for Timmy.

Off year? Or a sign of things to come? He had all season long to figure out how to improve and he could not do that.

Why would he want to stick it to the Giants? They offered him a long term deal; he turned it down.

this is sad, this guy was such a class act, the G-men should stick by this guy. My son is a Giants fan solely because of Lincecum, a lot of little kids are Giants fans becuse of Tim. Stay with him and help him to develop into his former self

The guy is clearly regressing and needs a change of scenery. If he can't produce anymore in the best pitcher's park in the league, what makes you think he'll be lights out in bandboxes like Yankee Stadium?
I think Lincecum in the bullpen is a sign of things to come. Either he can be a middling end of the rotation guy who walks and stikes a lot of batters out. Or he can move to the bullpen where he can be potentially devastating in short outings at the end of games.

I think he should get on a team with the Profar brothers. If the baseballl thing didn't work out they could do skate board exhibitions.

Stick by him? Tell me how they didn't stick by him while he lost 15 games. The fans were screaming for him to be sent to AAA, but they didn't do that to him. They DID do that to Zito last year, and Zito rebounded to have a great 2012.
What 10-15 starter has ever started a best-of-5 postseason game? I would bet, none.
Tim needs to devote himself to his craft and nothing else. No one can help him until he wants to help himself.

This article is rediculous. We love Timmy in SF. He's just not pitching well right now. But still, no one here wants to see him leave.

I support Boche's decision not to start him in the first five-game series, unpopular as that may be with his many fans... He had a very inconsistent, shaky second half of the regular season. He did pitch very well in middle relief last night - where has that been? Maybe Boche will start him in the NLCS...

@ rich 954: Let the Dodgers steal him and further add to their over-bloated payroll, which got them nowhere this season... Go Giants!

I know right? The dude has the worst ERA of all starting pitchers in baseball and he still gets standing ovations when he strikes someone out. Timmy is having location problems and endurance problems...and if he can solve that he will be fine. If not - he will be out of baseball in a matter of a few years.
As for demoting him to the bullpen in the ALDS - seemed to work fine from what I saw.

I can also see the Giants trying to get a deal done with him next year and, if that doesn't work, trade him before the deadline.

Lame article aimed to evoke controversy. Timmy is a GIANT. He will continue to be a GIANT. He's got Barry Zito to compare himself to. The Giants stuck with Zito, they'll stick with their two time Cy Young Award winner. And the winner of a crucial game yesterday.

Andrew Baggarly notes:
Lincecum in NLDS history: 2-0 with an 0.59 ERA. Five hits and one walk while striking out 22 in 15 1/3 innings.
Yeah, the Giants are too dumb to notice so they'll let Lincecum go to the Dogs or Self-Yankers.

Can Tim cut his hair and see if he pitches better? He is no Samson and I believe he needs a haircut so he can concentrate on his pitching. I notice that his pitching velocity has gone down from his Cy Young years, from 98 to 90. A big drop off = a tell tale of a future right handed Zito?

Thing is, he is nothing like Zito in terms of durability, wear and tear, or however you wanna describe it. Pitchers only have so many pitches in their arm, and a delivery like Lincecum has takes a toll.
