Seguin central to hot-button topic

08:25 AM ET 10.08 | Though on the surface a 50-50 revenue split makes sense, settling that matter alone wouldn't end the lockout. Why? Because the owners also want dramatic changes elsewhere in the CBA language, including such things as limits on contract length, tightened restrictions on free agency, extending from three to five years the length of entry-level deals. A hot-button issue within all that is the so-called "second contract" -- with young Bruins forward Tyler Seguin a prime example. ... Seguin is a budding superstar, so it made great sense for the Bruins to lock him up long term. However, the 20-year-old has played only 155 regular-season games, and at the moment stands to be Boston's highest-paid forward after only three years in the league.

What the hell does it matter who gets how much money at what age? This argument baffles my mind. If he's worth the money, he's worth the money. And Seguin is worth the money.

I do agree that 14 year contracts are stupid. But, it ain't the players fault if the nincompoops offer them.

Seguins the future franchise player..he faded some after last years all-star break but IMO THIS season will be his break-out season...30 goals and a PPG pace....he just needs to put on a lil weight...still looks a bit thin to me.

Guys in the upper echelons of the NHL will always get their money one way or another, no matter what. It's the bottom two thirds of the NHL that always gets screwed. Yet ..... they're not the ones doing all the crying and moaning. Most of them are just happy to be in the NHL and getting paid far more than their buddies working at a regular job.

The owners need to reign themselves in, not their players.
