Out-of-the-box candidate in Boston

08:27 AM ET 10.08 | Ben Cherington is back at the drawing board, tending to the second managerial search of his young GM career. Last year, team president Larry Lucchino pushed for Bobby Valentine, even though Cherington preferred both Dale Sveum and Gene Lamont. ... The extent to which Cherington will be allowed to hire the next manager remains to be seen. But he and Lucchino appear open to less experienced candidates, perhaps after seeing the success that novice managers Robin Ventura and Mike Matheny had with the White Sox and Cardinals, respectively. That may bode well for potential out-of-the-box candidates like Brad Ausmus and Bill Mueller, neither of whom have previous managerial experience.

Almost any reasonable managerial candidate they choose would be better than Valentine. Just on people skills alone they'd do way better.

Today is the 56th anniversary of Don Larsen's World Series perfect game. Larsen and Yogi Berra are the only surviving Yankees from that game.

Even as much I dislike the Red Sox, I dislike Bobby V ten time greater. I new it was disaster from day one, pompus prick. To think, two WS managed by Tito wasn't good enough....shocking!

I just repeated what Larsen said in the interview. So yes, I assume he meant those that played in the game.

Yeah, that's pretty wacky, but I understand why it's that way this year. I believe that changes next year.
