03:04 PM ET 10.08 | Georgia Tech has parted ways with defensive coordinator Al Groh after two lackluster defensive seasons and a rough early 2012 that's include a loss to Middle Tennessee:

In their last three games, the Yellow Jackets have given up 42, 49 and 47 points, continuing a spate of bad performances reaching back to last year. On Sunday after the latest loss, by 16 points to Clemson, coach Paul Johnson lamented that his offense has to score so many points every week. "The Institute has decided to go in a different direction, which I respect," said Groh, via the school. "I appreciate all the help and input from (assistant defensive coaches) Charles Kelly, Joe Speed and Andy McCollum, and the effort of all the players. I aimed to give the best that I had every day. It's been an honor to be a part of the legacy of Georgia Tech football. I feel positive that this is a good time in life to move on to a new situation."

Classy outgoing statement by Groh, at least.

Tough business, but the numbers don't lie. GT's offense is top shelf, but the defense can't stop anybody. You have to think that Johnson was considering this in the off-season but couldn't pull the trigger.

He'll find a job somewhere.Coach gets the blame, as always.

WVA, Baylor, Texas, Nebraska??? I'd like him to take over for the Titans, for that matter.

Did they ad new interns??? Hence the extra threads throughout the day???

West Virginia is not firing their defensive co-ordinator and their defense is worse. Maybe Georgia Tech's offense should score more points? What quality of defensive players did Tech recruit? Maybe the expectation for Groh were higher than the players could provide?

The difference is that West Virginia didn't lose to Tennessee-Martin (or anyone else this season, so far).

Winning covers a lot of errors.

Not many coaches "go off" after getting fired... they want another job, so they have to act with respect.

Just the norm here... nothing classy about that.

That is part of the problem, the more highly ranked recruits usually dont consider tech. Tech plays the academic card (dont get me wrong, it is a good school academically) however they do try to go after a lot of the same recruits as my Dawgs and they have coursework that can keep them in school .
Now the Dawgs on the other hand... we get the recruits and then go lay an egg like we did last weekend... ugh. Between the way the swamp lizards seem to be playing now, and the way we are playing - the game in Jax just got a lot tougher....

LMFAO, Florida win a tough game and all of a sudden their #1. The Gators still have to play South Carolina, Georigia, (Louisiana-Lafayette, Jacksonville State, LOL.) and FSU and then maybe a SEC CG. I still don't think it's fair that Florida plays two weak OOC games right before playing FSU.

take some Dramamine and hop on the coaching carousel Al, it's going to get crazy....

I think it is an overzealous, new intern looking to prove himself to the boss.
