Cuban one reason Williams signed with Nets

08:19 AM ET 10.09 | The success of basketball in Brooklyn, driven largely by the landing of Deron Williams, likely had much to do with what the Nets could offer the point guard. But Williams cited another factor Monday: the owner Mark Cuban's absence from the Mavericks' recruiting meeting. Cuban had a scheduling conflict -- he was in Los Angeles shooting an episode of the reality television show "Shark Tank." Asked if Cuban's absence affected his decision, Williams said flatly, "Of course." Williams added: "A lot of the questions that me and my agent had for them really didn't get answered that day -- you know, pertaining to the future. And I think if he was there, he would have been able to answer those questions a little bit better. Maybe would have helped me."

Deron, telephones. How do they work?

Sorry MMA, but I think a person in Cuban who was so cavalier in his dismissal (unloading) of all the talented players he had who just won him the ring he desired so much, it it he (Cuban) who should have been there and not filming these garbage reality shows. Remember it was Cuban has said to the world, "he was fixing his cap room for the potential free agencies of Howard, Williams and the many others. No, this one is on Cuban!

QUOTE(#5):

That's silly. Deron made his choice and wants the Mavs fans to blame Cuban instead of being mad at him. If he had legit questions he or his agent had all Summer to ask them.

You can call it silly all you want, but Prov. talked to Williams in person and so did Jigga,........Cuban didn't! Now whatta you got?......Cuban!

I agree. Deron was pretty much set on BK. And he had already met with Cuban a few times before.

since when is it necessary for the owner to be present? the GM, the person who runs the team on the day to day basis, is the more important person to speak with. the owner is the guy who made or makes his money doing other things, the team is a toy, an investment, that makes money for him. he isn't responsble for trivial details like "we're going to be a pick and roll team and need to assemble A, B, and C players to run it successfully". if DWill wanted to go back home and play in Dallas then he shouldn't need Cuban or anyone else. on the flipside if he didn't want to play for say the Charlott Bobcats then Michael Jordan himself couldn't pursuade him. it was always about the money. if it wasn't about the money as soon as he got word that Cuban wasn't going to be at the meeting they could've done something revolutionary like, i don't know, rescheduling the meeting. crazy idea, i know.

If you were considering moving your whole life to another city wouldn't you make phone calls or go get your questions answered if you had them? I'm sure Cuban would have flown up if he knew Deron needed to talk still. This is about Deron wanting the 5 yr 125 mil Brooklyn contract rather than the 4 year 95 million dollar Dallas deal. Let's not lose site of the money angle, lol.

Bingo. Well said.
