Zetterberg on KHL: 'They honor the contracts'

08:37 AM ET 10.09 | Red Wings center Henrik Zetterberg has joined a cast of more than 100 working overseas during the lockout, as he'll play in Switzerland. Zetterberg will be back when the lockout ends, but he's not sure if some others playing in Europe will return this season. "I know for a fact Russians will probably stay," Zetterberg said. "I can't blame them either. The Russian league treats players a different way. For them to play in their home country and not have these (labor) disputes every other year ... and they honor the contracts over there. If you sign a deal, that's the deal you get." ... Zetterberg, once again, pinned the blame on NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, and expressed empathy for fans.

Players really need to tone down the victim rhetoric. It's getting really annoying hearing millionaires whining about temporarily not getting their millions while so many people deal with unemployment and struggle to put food on the table.
Also, less Russians=less diving. Right, Mr. Cherry?

You'd think that the players would do a better job of marketing their side of the story instead of taking verbal potshots on a daily basis.

C'mon. Next thing you know they'll have to give up their Rolls and drive around in Bentleys. Hard times are coming. Who could live on the pittance those guys are getting? And, if they can all do so much better overseas, let 'em go.

I suggest all Canadians phone their cable service provider and asking Bell or Rogers for a downgrade in services until the lockout ends now if it was just those on here it wouldn't work but if a grass roots organization started and actually got the numbers needed to put a serious dent in their license to print money(cable TV provider) they as the strongest on the block (ie they pay the other NHL teams money to broadcast their games) might influence other teams to settle . Another thing phone Bell and Rogers and ask why do we have to pay so much for TSN and Sportsnet when they aren't showing hockey (I believe TSN gets around $2 dollars per household Sportsnet around $1.70) ask to speak to a supervisor or a manager let them know as Canadians

Boy did this bring out the cavemen. Read the post, there is no whining. Z states a couple facts: Russians are not uncomfortable playing in Russia, and the NHL does not honor contracts. If you got hired for $10 per hour, then your employee said he's making more money than ever, but he is going to cut your pay to $7.50, would your reaction be "Great!"? If you're jealous of a player with a average career of 5 years trying to get paid what he can, why aren't you jealous of a billionaire who is making hundreds of times as much money, but claiming poverty? Sports is entertainment, and the players are not the only ones signing their contracts. It is unethical for the owners to offer a contract, then unilaterally change the conditions.

Go back to grade school and learn grammar, then try to make sense. The point is this is a LOCKOUT, not a strike. The players would all be in camp, but the owners have locked them out, because they say the cannot afford the contracts they offered. Then they continue to offer multi-year seven figure contracts. Does that somehow make sense to you? My problem is all the anger is directed at the players and not the owners.
