DeMarcus Cousins ... the leader?

08:50 AM ET 10.09 | Though he may have rubbed some the wrong way in his young NBA career, DeMarcus Cousins' evolution as a leader continues. It's a role Cousins embraces, but he's still learning the best way to get his message across to teammates. "I'm trying (to lead)," Cousins said. "Just in a better way that will be accepted more and accepted better." It's one thing to be a fiery leader. But if that intensity disturbs teammates, Cousins might as well be talking to a wall. Cousins is a bright player, but his observations and messages are often ignored if they are shouted to teammates. It's something Kings coaches and players have relayed to Cousins, who says he's listening.

Too many underestimate Cousins. He'll get there.

Totally agree... this kid is a beast and is a budding star in this league...

He'll get there. The team really isn't that good. Maybe if he just leads by example...

The question is are they ready to follow. Personally I think he is a hot headed punk with talent and needs to grow up before he can truly be a leader.

"Cousins is a bright player..." Hmm. I see him being a decent (maybe even great) player if he grows up a bit, but I don't think of him as a cerebral player.

He is a dullard with talent. For an NFL example, see Cutler, Jay.

He's earned that underestimation...no one questions his talent, its his drive, work ethic and attitude that are questioned. I personally think he can be a double/double guy nightly IF his head is in the game. He gets too distracted with bad calls, refs, not getting the ball, etc and it affects his play negatively
