09:22 AM ET 10.09 | Not only was the regular season tough on Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, but the first week of the offseason has been, too. The team fired three members of his coaching staff and reassigned two others last Thursday. Gardenhire's mother, Jo, also had a health scare. ... The Twins fired longtime bullpen coach Rick Stelmaszek, first base coach Jerry White and third base coach Steve Liddle, three coaches who had been a part of his staff since he replaced Tom Kelly as manager for the 2002 season. ... The Twins could promote all three members of this year's Class AAA Rochester field staff to the majors, with manager Gene Glynn becoming the new third base coach, Tom Brunansky becoming the hitting coach and Bobby Cuellar becoming the bullpen coach.

The Twins need changes...mostly in the rotation.
Here's a thought; how would Zack Greinke fit in here?

The Twins are too cheap to get Greinke.

I'm surprised Gardenhire is still around.

Twins have to do something. They won't pay for the talent so they have to go to their farm system. No brainer!

He took a couple of teams to the playoffs that should have been 500 clubs (or less) on talent, but this year there were no more rabbits in the hat. Time to get serious about addressing the talent; I don't think you fire Gardenhire until you get him more talent and then he can't produce.

The Twins might as well bring up the triple A staff. The worse that can happen is they will finish last in their division. Oh ,wait , that is where the twins finished this year. The upside is twins triple A staff would give the twins an idea of what the future of these guys might be.

wiseup: Ownership has sat on their hands long enough. If your Triple A staff is so good, then you might want ,have to trade or sign some talent. Time to get serious. Firing manager or coaches wont solve problem.

Intriguing proposition. Greinke does seem to prefer smaller markets to larger ones. I think it could be a really nice fit if they find room to pay him.

Agreed. I hate the whole "Team can't win? Can the coach!" mentality. I mean, it's one thing if you have a group of stars and the team can't win, but it's not always the manager's fault, certainly not if he doesn't have much talent to work with. Also, if he has a proven track record like Gardenhire, he should be given a little space.
I'm astounded and frustrated that people are actually talking about moving on without Ron Washington here in Texas. EXCUSE ME? You want to get rid of the guy who took this team from last place to annual championship contenders, this year's collapse notwithstanding?
I think our market down here is spoiled because at one point the Cowboys were good enough to win three Super Bowls in four seasons and somehow we got the idea that if you aren't winning it all you aren't cutting it. We want to fire Wash because he has missed on two chances to win the big one, but we forget that for the 35 or so seasons before he got here the Rangers never even won a playoff series (or even made the playoffs at all, for the most part).

Tough decisions are upcoming like trying to trade Morneau or even (gasp) Joe Mauer (nah, there's always room for a .325 hitter, isn't there?) and load up on some decent starting pitching. Span, Revere, Mauer, Willingham, Doumit, Plouffe - are 2/3 of a decent lineup. Savvy GM Terry Ryan can find a couple others to fill the rest.
