08:03 AM ET 10.10 | The sputtering Lions sure could use a little Jahvid Best these days. [The Lions believe Best] can have an instant and immense impact if doctors clear him to return from concussions when he's eligible to come off the physically-unable-to-perform list next week. "He changes this offense, no doubt," guard Rob Sims said. "You can't cover him out of the backfield." ... Once he's cleared, the Lions can start Best on a 21-day practice window or promote him to the active roster immediately. [Coach Jim Schwartz] said no decision has been made on how to handle Best's return, but Sims and center Dominic Raiola are confident Best will be a game-changer the minute he steps on the field.

If Jim Schwartz really thinks "...Best will be a game-changer the minute he steps on the field," then maybe it's Schwartz that should be checked for a concussion.

Sounds like the pressure is starting to build in Detroit. They were supposed to be contenders this year and have really been underwhelming.

"... if doctors clear him to return from concussions when he's eligible ..."

That's the real question. That, and "Is Jim Schwartz putting pressure on the doctors to let Best play?"

He's had more 20 yard plus plays as a receiver than he has had as a running back.

He is a nice complimentary player. The article makes it sound like the reincarnation of Gayle Sayers is just waiting for the chance to be unleashed on the NFL.

He will last until his next - and last - concussion or other injury. Some player are injury-prone and Best is one of them. He's neither the long- or short-term answer to the Lions' woes. It's Schwartz.
