Scott blasts No. 4 overall pick

08:06 AM ET 10.10 | Byron Scott certainly spread his criticism around after Tuesday night's loss, but he reserved the most pointed commentary for Dion Waiters. Scott was so upset with [Waiters] that he benched him after just a minute in the fourth quarter. Waiters made just one of seven shots -- laying in an alley-oop from [C.J. Miles] before falling down -- and had four turnovers. So far in training camp, he hasn't looked like the No. 4 pick in the draft. "He struggled offensively big-time," Scott said. "I took him out in the second half because I drew up a play, guard ran the play, he messed it up. To me that was a lack of focus so I figured he didn't need to play the rest of the game." ... "I can't draw up a play during a timeout and you go on the floor and mess it up."

There are enough players who were drafted in the top 10 that will be a bust. Good luck Cavs, you'll need it.

I wonder how many of these very same postesr will be recanting their assessment if the Kid pans out, and the mere fact that according to Byron, the kid lacked forcus and messed up for several plays? Quite frankly if that was the case indeed, I see nothing wrong with letting the kid know that this is what I need from you.

Exactly. Maybe all this kid needs is to be held accountable and made to understand what is expected from him. He needs to earn that big cash.

I say you did the right thing Byron. The kid needs to learn and learn fast. Im sure it was not just one isolated mistake it is usually a combo of mistakes that frustrate a coach.

it was a bad pick for the cavs-getting a small guard who projects to be a 6th man was not a good pick for a franchise that needs help

You're absolutely right... It doesn't help that the kid was in horrible shape for the summer league and still hasn't learned how to play any D what so ever... Cleveland was so desperate for a spot up shooter when the Wizards took Bradley Beal that they gambled on this kid instead and now it's going to burn them hard... Barnes should've been the one picked or even Robinson or Drummond whom for sure will have better NBA careers then this kid...

I didn't realize he was out of shape too.....So not being in shape + intelligence questions + focus questions = not looking promising for a quality career

he came into summerleague 30lbs over his playing weight and struggled the whole time there.. kept getting burnt playing D away from the ball and on the ball... just crap D period...
