Mets' concern about Dickey

08:13 AM ET 10.10 | The Mets have reportedly reached out to both David Wright, who some speculate may be looking at a deal in the neighborhood of $100 million, and R.A. Dickey in recent days. The Mets seem to want to keep Dickey's extension to no more than two years, unless they see the salary as a real bargain. While Dickey is a knuckleballer, they wonder about whether his unusually high velocity for a knuckleballer (80 mph-plus) could affect his ability to last as long as some other accomplished pitchers who specialized in that pitch, like Charlie Hough and Phil Niekro. One rival GM said he believes Dickey should be worth $15 million a year, but the Mets aren't believed to be thinking anywhere near that ballpark.

I am not a GM but this sounds very simple, you sign Wright the face of your franchise to a long tern deal, with Dickey who is a career 500 pitcher he gets a one year extension and for a whole lot less.

Sgt Shultz - let me know if you agree on your Mets:
In order of importance to sign in my opinion:
1) Dickey : $24MM Gted over 3 years with upside to $32 over 4 - basically his $5mm for 2013, $8.5mm for 2014, $8.5mm for 2015, Club option for 2016 at $8.5mm or $2mm buyout. Represents more years than most people would give his age and limited track record but in terms of wins and innings per $ cheap. I could be talked into the buyout being $3mm if he and his agent wanted the headline to be $20mm and 2 years added to dickey???s contract
2) Wright my thoughts below ??? (This is necessarily less of a deal for club ??? face of team, Zimmerman contract, etc.) - $110 over 6 years ??? his $16mm for 2013, $18mm per year 2014-2018, club option for 2019 at $18MM with a $4mm buyout
3) Extend Collins 1 year ??? at a 10% raise ??? assuming he and Wright get on as well as I think they do. He seems to have the teams ear still

doubt that - No reason to move Dickey even if you can't get an extension done - still need to field a competitive team - he will help you do that
