UCLA wants to talk to Norm Chow, and the chances of a significant conversation between Bruins Coach Rick Neuheisel and the veteran offensive coordinator increased dramatically Tuesday when the Tennessee Titans fired Chow after three seasons with the NFL team. Chow, who interviewed to become UCLA's head coach in December, acknowledged Tuesday night that UCLA had contacted his oldest son, Carter, who is his agent. Chow, 61, has two years left on a contract that will pay him more than $1 million a year. UCLA is believed to have between $300,000 and $400,000 available for an offensive coordinator.

Ah yes USC Trojans in the powder blue form if he accepts the job!

Hmm...Not sure what to make of this deal. With all the movement of Coaches in the NFL, it'll be interesting to see if Chow comes back to the college ranks. $$$ could be the difference.

January 16, 2008  08:34 AM ET

Wow. Norm was so successful as a college OC. Kinda sad to hear he got axed.

January 16, 2008  09:34 AM ET

It would be a good move on Norm's part. Go back to LA and rebuild your name. A college will take a chance on him eventually.

January 16, 2008  10:01 AM ET

he got axed because VY wanted him gone........

January 16, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Yeah, that's what I hear, 84.

January 16, 2008  10:26 AM ET

WVU needs to pick him up but doubt that would happen.

January 16, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Why would Norm want to step back - and down - in his career? Bad move, Norm. there's a college head coaching job for you there (Hawaii?) and you deserve it, not being an underling to the dirty Ricky Newhassel. (Association will probably torpedo any further advancement.)

January 16, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Chow is extemely sharp and any program would be fortunate to get him. Bad situation for Titans . . . bad draft pick for marginal QB gets Chow fired . . . and Chow wanted the other guy.

January 16, 2008  11:02 AM ET

I hope Norm stays away from UCLA and tke a look around the NFL first. I know a couple of colleges (SMU, Hawaii) are kicking their own butts for not waiting another week to make a Move for a head coach,

January 16, 2008  11:03 AM ET

UCLA better check first to see how well Chow plays the lottery and keno.

Aloha Fan Nation
Norm Chow is needed back at the Universioty of Hawaii. He is a local boy, Punahou High School grad. He has a distinguished college coaching career at both BYU and USC. He has the offensive mindset needed to continue what June Jones started, the run and shoot. We love our local boys when they do well in the major sports arenas. Norm would be a huge asset to the UofH.

I can remember the bad times under Larry Price. He couldn't help it. He is a Portogee like me. But from Dick Tomey on, this program got life. Now we are at the pinnacle thanks to brother June. Norm can restore integrity and continuity to this program with his offensive minded skills. And having him back in the islands would be a joy.

I hope we can put public pressure on Norm and the President of UofH to get him back as Head Coach of the Warriors.

Just in case you didn't know, another Punahou alum, Skip Akina, is the DC for Texas. Saw him on the sidelines this year on TV. Although I am a St. Louis grad, like Norm's older brother Mike, we put aside our HS rivalries when they excel in their professions. Makes us all proud to Hawaiians.

Maybe we need to send Gov. Lingle out to talk to Norm. Go Warriors.
Mahalo,
Major Mike

I'm surprised that he was fired after such a relatively quick stint in the pros but I suppose his flirtations with other jobs made mgmt's decision much easier. If $C can make it work with Ken Norton - then we can work with Chow.

When will VY be gone? He sucketh!!!!

Norm Chow: Male Prostitute

January 16, 2008  01:07 PM ET

and is being a male prostitute a bad thing????????

January 16, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Hey, doesn't Norm Chow play that chinese guy on Law and Order SVU?

January 16, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Hawaii will probably go with McMackin, although I was rooting for Chow. I'm a Hawaii fan and know that June Jones run-n-shoot is far from perfect and only works against weaker opponents. Chow would take the system to a whole different level and could actually have a lot of fun in Hawaii. But the problem for Hawaii then would be to keep McMackin from leaving for SMU to join Jones.

January 16, 2008  01:38 PM ET

And the Titans horrible offense wasn't Chow's fault. He had better talent on his USC squad then what Tenn gave him. Chow's offense is sophisticated and built for bright QBs and V.Young although talented is far from being categorized as a bright kid.

Being a male prostitute may very well be a bad thing. How bad does a woman have to look to pay for ****?

Truth, I think that's a different guy.
