Rams want Kendricks to do more

11:46 AM ET 10.10 | The St. Louis Rams are searching for answers on offense as the team seeks to replace the contributions of receiver Danny Amendola. One player likely to see his workload in the passing game increase is tight end Lance Kendricks, a second-round pick in the 2011 draft. Tight ends coach Rob Boras is working with Kendricks to help him make the jump to the league's better pass catching tight ends. This season they are working extensively on "out-of-frame" catching, i.e. catching the ball away from his body. If he can iron out that portion of his game, the Rams offense will have another much-needed weapon.

Make the jump ? If I read this right the guy is a backup, he's a backup cause other people are better. Just cause you need him won't make him jump. Also I agree with Steve

Are the Rams actually a decent team this year? Or does a collapse seem to be in the future?

I think the jump referred to is from "a tight end who isn't involved in the passing game," to "a tight end who is involved in the passing game." It sounds as though they are thinking this will be a small step for him, although a giant leap for the Rams offense. I think it is more likely a large step for him, and if he makes it, a short leap for the team.

It turns on defense and Bradford. Both are pretty good right now.

After the Dolphins, the Rams have to play the Packers, the Patriots and the 49ers....that will tell us if they are good or not
