02:18 PM ET 10.10 | The San Francisco 49ers were picked to roll through the NFC this season, but predictions were delayed when the team got off to a slow start. Since losing to the Vikings, the 49ers have been as close to dominate as it gets, scoring 79 points and limiting opponents to a total of three points in both games. Offensive tackle Joe Staley says the team's surge is no accident. "Once we started getting on a roll and started making some big plays down field, I felt like it was going to be a fun day for us."

Slow start? What season were they watching? SF has had a tough early season schedule, but has gone 4 and 1, losing only when they were ambushed by the surprising Vikings. This is not a slow start; it might be a lesson in taking an opponent lightly but "slow start" is absurd.
Also, the word is "dominant," not "dominate." ( ",,,the 49ers have been as close to dominate as it gets.")

This confusion is owed to the fine work of the crack T&R staff - and I do mean "crack." It's a condensed, abridged, garbled, ef fed up version of what that beacon of western literature, Brad Gagnon wrote - or said or something. Two sets of numbskulls talking to one another. Apparently, Brad the Verb Sponge's reference to "slow start" was to the beginning of the Buffalo game, not to the Niners' whole season thus far.
Now, as to "ambush," I think that the Vikings are proving to be a tougher out than most thought at the beginning of the season. Most wags had them at the bottom of NFC North. But then again they had the Packers at the top. In any case, Les Frazier has performed the kind of miracle that Harbaugh did in SF - at least for now. What happens in the rest of the season is open to question, but the Vikings at present look legit.
As for "dominate, dominant": I think the interns were going for "domino."

Or maybe "Dominatrix?" Nah, Domino, but I prefer the little Greek places like Steve's House of Pizza in town.

I doubt it. Peyton Manning has made it clear that Papa John is the official pizza of the NFL

You are correct about the Vikings; I just meant that it looked like the 49ers thought it would be a cakewalk, and learned the hard way that there aren't any cakewalks in the NFL, no matter who you are or who you are playing. The Vikings are a surprise, but that is no excuse.
I should have checked the original story before responding, but it didn't occur to me that anyone would mess up quite that badly.

I still have worlds of respect for Mike Singletary. He was one of the good ones. Like Alex Karess. A name to be respected and feared among his colleagues.

Yes, the 49ers are a good team. But they steamrolled two of the worst teams in the league-the "foot friendly" Jets and the soon-to-be-Toronto DollarBills. That's like having a pro player competing in varsity. Go trounce the Pats or the Texans, then you can start using words like "domination."

I thought it was Scot McCloughan who commited to building a strong defense? He's also the guy that stuck to Jimmy Raye's offensive philosophy of "3 yards and a cloud of dust?" Which is why Singletary was eventually fired..
The offense got better once Trent Baalke brought in more players suited for a modern offense, and Harbaugh used more creative schemes.
