Allen: NFL cares more about offensive players

08:03 AM ET 10.11 | Generally used to pressuring quarterbacks, Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen feels as if he's under the gun himself. Asked Wednesday on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" show whether the NFL favors offensive players and ignores defensive players when it comes to dangerous hits, Allen quickly answered, "Oh, absolutely." ... "When we talk about overall player safety, I think, you know, from a defensive side of the ball, we definitely feel like it's not necessarily geared towards us," Allen said. "It's more stuff we can't do to them than they can't do to us." ... Allen also was realistic: "Everybody gets treated fairly, but not everybody gets treated the same."

When I first saw the headline, I thought they were talking about Woody Allen. Then I saw Jared's name, read the quotes, and realized he sounds a lot like Woody- only dumber.

The NFL is trying to protect the big ticket players who make it happen the QB's. I saw two bad calls on hits to the QB's that were not helmit to helmit, just hard hits. Its BS.

Well since its the defense delivering the blow - I would think you would have to protect the offense a little more ......or it would be shots to the head and horsecollar tackles and so forth....

NFL "protecting" defensive players is like assigning bodyguards to random people....they aren't targets and therefore do not need the protection....but it's not like the NFL is giving special protective gear to offensive players and leather helmets for the defense....
