08:05 AM ET 10.11 | Even if Kevin Garnett doesn't know their names, Boston's young guns could be a factor. It was presumed on the way into training camp that the Celtics starting lineup was fairly well set with Paul Pierce, [Garnett] and Brandon Bass up front and Courtney Lee keeping Avery Bradley's spot in the backcourt warm for now alongside Rajon Rondo. Not so fast. Coach Doc Rivers yesterday opened the door wide to the possibility of rookie Jared Sullinger pushing Bass to a reserve role to better balance the rotation. Rivers even raised the notion that much-traveled Darko Milicic could open at center and nudge Garnett back to power forward. And as if that weren't enough, Rivers said the C's could wind up with an all-of-the-above approach.

And quite frankly, it doesn't make sense. I mean to start dissent that early in the season. I pegged Doc to be a bit smarter than that, particularly after the Bradley for Allen switch last year. In that case, Allen didn't do anything to lose his job other than being injured. In this case, Bass has done everything and then some to help the C's all while being a pro about it. Let the rookie learn from the Vets and if he's that good, showcase him off the bench with quality and consistent minutes and then if he plays so well that you have to make the change, make the change!

If you start Darko and Shullinger, where does Pierce fit in if your going to start Avery also? Darko has looked good in the preseason due in part because the focus is not on him and he's receiving the ball in transition.

In Doc we trust. Everything he does seems to go well. Eventually, Darko is going to have to play big minutes. Against a team like LA, Darko might play more, against Miami, Bass should play more. Bass can be a big defender sometimes, but sometimes, he just disappears. I think Bass should get the nod. He played big last year when they needed it. He deserves it.
