08:19 AM ET 10.11 | Former NHL great Guy Lafleur doesn't have any problem with the threats from some European players that they might not return to the NHL when the lockout eventually ends. In fact, he sees a significant benefit for Canadians if the Europeans do stay home. "Let them stay there, it will make more room for players from Quebec and North Americans," Lafleur said Wednesday during a press conference announcing the construction of Place Guy Lafleur in his hometown of Thurso, Que. "As a supporter and former player, I do not care for players who want to stay in Europe. It's their choice." ... Lafleur also speculated that the lockout would drag into the new year. "We hope it will be settled before the holidays (but) I am very skeptical about it," he said.

I caught that hilarious gaff also......i wonder if his ears would have started bleeding if he had been forced to say "Canada?" The writer says Canadians, but Guy does not.

I can remember traveling through Quebec in a drunken stupor back in the late 80's maybe early 90's and getting a flat tire. Stopped in a shop to get the object out and get a plug put in; they wouldnt help us because we didnt speak french. My buddy was from Kingston and he went off---I had to separate him and the shop worker.......priceless

I think I agree with this. We have some similar, (though not nearly as large) issues down here too

The problem you foster is "where do you say stop once you start?" Look at Africa or the former Soviet States. Smaller, and smaller nations, fractioned along racial ,and or belief system lines , now seperated by so many discriminatory borders that economic function is severely hampered.

Amen Harry. Our politicians (both sides) don't look at people as human beings. Everybody has to be segmented by race, sex, religion, ethnicity, physical characteristics, straight, gay, first language and on and on and on...........gets tiresome and breeds distrust and often hatred. Sad.
Personally, I distrust people based on what hockey team they root for. Good = Capitals;
Bad = Bruins, Canadiens, Rangers, Redwings, Flyers, Leafs etc. etc. Doesn't bother me a bit about any other demographic.

I personally distrust anybody that does not like hockey.
I mean seriously what is not to like?
And I am so glad my computer accepts your sarcasm font because there isn't anything good about the Capitals....or at least after the playoffs start

I'm not positive yet but I might be there. A friend has tix. Might not make it Saturday, but I'll certainly be there very soon. I always enjoy the Giant Center and the Bears. Went to several games last season and hopefully will get to even more this year.
