03:41 PM ET 10.11 | They say that idle hands are the devil's workshop. With the Bears on a Bye this week and the usual business of weekly preparations for the next game shut down, rumors are swirling that the Bears are having discussions with Lovie Smith about a two-year contract extension. I'm really torn about this deal, so I'll present the case for both sides and see what you think. Lovie Smith is a player's coach, but it's not just a matter of him looking out for his players and taking it easy on them during practices and such. Lovie has total and complete respect from the locker room. Look no further than halftime of the Jaguars game, when Lovie "cursed out his team without cursing" and led them out of their first half funk and on to victory.

Emery has already said that negotiating isn't happening and he'd be a fool to be engaged in it now with barely a quarter of the season gone. The heavy part of the schedule is coming up and how Lovie and Co. perform then is what will count. Lovie has made really bad mistakes before and you will remember how he was completely uncreative and hopeless in that slide last year. I don't see this happening before the Bears are assured a playoff spot at least. And that'll be way down the road from here.

Why would you not extend the guy when he's winning. To do otherwise makes no sense. It ain't like the team will improve drastically with someone else at the helm.
