08:13 AM ET 10.12 | Nationals GM Mike Rizzo rolled up his sleeves Thursday. [Rizzo] took umbrage at a couple unnamed execs who suggested in USA Today that they despise the Nationals for shutting down Strasburg (and maybe a little for what some may perceive as cockiness). Rizzo referred to the unnamed aspect of the comments as "chicken (bleep)." Rizzo, a Chicagoan, also said, "That's not how we do things in my neighborhood." One unnamed exec told the paper, referring to the Nats, "If we don't win the World Series, I don't care who does, as long as it's not these guys." ... A National League exec said in the story, "I hope they go down in flames. I hope it takes another 79 years before they get back to the playoffs." The GMs weren't named, so Rizzo speculated. "Who knows, maybe the came from an executive on a team that lost 120 games."

Jealousy rears it's ugly head. Personally, I'd like to see them win.

God I hate the Nats.

Glad to see that they've been filling up their stadium the last several weeks, since it was empty for the first seven plus years.

All that being said, I understand the baseball gods are with the Nats this year and they will be moving on at the end of tonight.

It's nice to see playoff baseball in Washington.

Rizzo is going to figure out who that exec is and punish him with unending crank phone calls."Hey, rubberneck, this is Rizzo!!! You buy this effing car or I'll bounce your head off the hood like a basketball."

That, plus he'll leave dog poop in a burning bag on his porch.

Rizzo the pressure will really be on your butt if your team doesn't win tonight. In sports GM there are no guarantees of you being back in the chase next maybe because of injuries or other factors that cause you to have a bad season. The bottom line you should have pitch your stud and tried to win this year for the team and your fans.

The Nats just might win the last game and make it one step closer to the World Series without Strassburg. What I don't understand is why other GM's would care how Rizzo treats his own players. Are they afraid that down the road they're way is going to be obsolete and a new way will win the day?

Baseball has always been a game afraid of chance.

I think looking after your great young pitcher a year after Tommy John is reasonable. A good thing long term but in the short term it probably would have been better to use him on a limited basis....say in a short relief role. If they win then all the 2nd guessing goes away and it becomes a smart move.

It sounds like the other exec's are throwing a little gas on the fire under Rizzo. He must have beaten them to some really sweet deals.

perhaps not jelousy but when we make wrong moves things can have a different type of vew, if the nationals had have kept strasburg and still failed then things would had been worse, at least if the nationlas fail which i don't expect to happen then they can use strasburg as a excuse!!!

Absolutely. I've been one of the proponents of saving Strasburg for the future.

How about Justin, a nice 4-hitter. As fielders leave much to be desired.

I applaud tthe Nats for actually having the stones to shut him down. It shows that they actually care about the player and about the future of the team as well.
