Rangers ready to swing for Greinke?

08:14 AM ET 10.12 | In the event the Rangers don't re-sign Josh Hamilton -- whose prospects were buoyed by a season that despite a few odd sidebar stories along the way also included 43 home runs and 128 RBIs -- what free agents might the club pursue? Zack Greinke. The Rangers made a strong push for him at the Trade Deadline, he is the premier pitching free agent on the market and this is still an organization that wants to build around pitching. That's where the club wants to spend its money. Look for the Rangers to be one of the major pursuers for Greinke this winter in an attempt to reinforce their rotation.

Texas would seem to be his logical landing spot.

With Profar waiting to take over SS, trade Andrus for some pitching

Are you an idiot, you don't trade Andrus who is one of the best SS. They're going to put Kinsler in the OF or trade him and put Profar on 2B.

Maybe that's what Greinke needs.

Yeah - Greinke is a thumb sucking cry baby. That's not exactly Ryan's kind of guy.

These sports writers don't do their home teams any favor by putting this information out there to the public and especially his agent.

Why would you move Profar to 2nd?

I just don't consider telling Greinke to "man up" as being mean. It'd just be treating him like any other individual who has responsibilities. At least at the moment, two members of the Rangers suffer from mental illness if you consider the addiction battles of Ron Washington and Josh Hamilton. Greinke's problems are no different inasmuch as he needs to "man up" and deal with them. I'd think that an even-handed but firm approach from Nolan Ryan would potentially be beneficial.

Profar is head and shoulders above Andrus defensively. Andrus rates somewhere around Jeter as far as a defensive SS...if not worse.

Rangers have had him working at 2B in the minors. With Andrus at SS they would more than likely put Profar at 2B since he's been working there and Andrus hasn't. Doesn't matter either way you don't trade Andrus.

Rangers team ERA ranked 7th in the AL last season, that's supposed to contend for a World Series title? Who is their ace? Harrison? Darvish? Reality is they don't have one and in the playoffs you need one like a Verlander or Matt Cain.

That's why they are probably going to pursue Greinke thru FA, not trade away an All-Star SS

The Rangers need to improve their starting pitching and with hot prospect Martin Perez proving he's simply not ready (5.45 ERA in 6 starts and 12 total appearances) they need to trade some talent like Andrus, Profar, Olt, etc.
