D-backs shopping outfielders

08:14 AM ET 10.12 | At the end of the day, more than three becomes a crowd in the outfield. The Diamondbacks have too many outfielders for too few positions, and though their off-season barely has begun, they've already begun to explore the trade market, reaching out to clubs they identified as being in need of outfield help. They are almost certain to have already talked to other clubs about center fielder Chris Young, but there is another name they're open to discussing, one that might come as a surprise: left fielder Jason Kubel. The question the Diamondbacks seem to be weighing is whether they're a better team with Kubel in left or with Gerardo Parra, who was the starting left fielder for most of 2011.

The D Backs have an overabundance of outfielders and the Rays have an overabundance of pitching.

Have to believe the Red Sox are on their call list.

You have to think that the Rays phone will be ringing all winter long. Just about every team needs starting pitching.

I think the DBacks need to trade for prospects instead of establish players because they are light years away from catching up with LA and SF.

if the d'backs have so much OF'S why they did sign jason kubel anyways?? i don't think you should sign too many position players for the same spot, rather the franchise should sign players WHO could have the versatility and flexinility in playing multiple positions(example)

And they were in the wild card hunt this year, just couldn't quite close the gap. Bringing balance to the team and clearning room for some of the young players is a good idea.
Kubel is 30, hit 30 HR's last year, and is a bad defensive outfielder. Parra is 25 and a very good defensive outfielder, has a slightly better OBP, but doesn't have the power. It probably makes sense to trade Kubel--an AL team needing a DH might pay something for him
Young, who is 29, an excellent defender with speed and power (but without a decent OBP) might bring a better return from the right team.

Ells for a front line pitcher would be a good trade, since resigning Ells next year at this time will be expensive.

The only way the Red Sox get a starter back for Ellsbury is if that player is in the same contractual situation.

Kubel should be in the AL and DH'ing.
