Stanford's intimidating, physical play worries Notre Dame

10:07 AM ET 10.13 | Beat Stanford? Sure, Notre Dame would like to beat Stanford. But the Irish also would like to be Stanford. Or, at least, be more like Stanford. Big. Physical. Intimidating. Able to impose their will on an opponent. "They use that size and that aggression to potentially intimidate their opponents, and they're great at it," safety Matthias Farley said. "Matching that physicality, and matching that mental toughness, is what we're going for." There's no doubt the No. 7 Irish have become more physical and more aggressive. The defense hasn't allowed a touchdown in three consecutive games, and the offense ran roughshod over Miami last week. But No. 17 Stanford -- a team that's had its way with the Irish in the last three meetings -- is no Miami. When a reporter asked Brian Kelly how Cardinal players "try" to intimidate opponents, he quickly jumped in: "They don't try, they do," he said.

Put 7 offensive linemen on the field and push your opponent around. It's the new craze in college football.

Good point, I'm not sure if Stanford will win, but I'm tempted to take the 7 points and Stanford.

It's easy to look intimidating and physical on offense in the Pac 12 where they play no defense. And of course you know there's only one conference that truly plays tough and physical football. And remember they invented defense over there.
It's the weekend and the regulars aren't here to remind you of these things.

LOL, DR. I have heard that ("And of course you know there's only one conference that truly plays tough and physical football"), for the past 10/15 years and it's been embedded in my brain.

It's because they need constant validation over there. They keep saying the same thing over and over hoping it's true.

Anyone that spreads the field and throws it around doesn't play real football. You can't have any player split out. It's making a travesty of the game to play it that way. Have to stay in tight and go toe to toe...even if your guys are smaller. It's a rule.

... and the no huddle hurry-up offense is not what we want football to become. It's a safety issue for the players .....

Nice to see you Harley. I'm getting ready to watch the Red River Rivalry although it's hard to get in the proper mood for football at 11:00 a.m.
