Is Mack Brown on hot seat after another embarrassing loss?

08:12 AM ET 10.14 | Mack Brown does have a $3.5 million buyout. He may need it if this trend continues. Usually all it takes is one Red River loss like this to get a Texas coach fired, two at the most. Brown just put up the worst back-to-back losses in the history of a storied rivalry. He also owns the rights to four of the worst seven in the series. If Mack wins eight or nine games and a bowl, he remains in good graces. He's earned it. Among his many qualities, no coach, not even Darrell Royal, has made more money for Texas. For better or worse, that's been DeLoss Dodds' bottom line all along. But should Texas continue to struggle, it's not hard to envision Dodds or a prominent booster sidling up to Brown. You're 61, he'd whisper. You've built a great program. You're held in high esteem. Bow out now before it gets any worse.

Great game from Oklahoma!! Should be a good game when ND goes down to Norman in a couple of weeks to play them. I just wonder if the Sooners have the defense to stop ND.

The pressure is always on any UTx coach.

The rusty cow faithful don't like to be embarrassed by anyone...especially the land thieves.

Connect the dots for yourselves.

You have miss the point here Mr. Writer the world of college athletics is full of greedy people who run these programs and it is the same old song, It ain't want you have done for us in the past but what are you going to do for us now and beyond.

Whoever that kid is that wears #2 for the Texas defense needs his scholly pulled. That kid wouldn't hit or tackle anything wearing the opposite jersey. I can't believe that they don't have anybody better behind him.

Last week the defense blitzed to the side away from the run and got burned repeatedly. This week the blitzes were just as ineffective, and when the D played straight up they didn't look any better. What good is defensive speed when they run themselves out of plays instead of being coached about their assignments? Can Diaz teach, or is he just a (alleged) great thinker?

The Dallas Morning News article has some funny stuff ...

"Only Texas' defense could turn a 256-pound brute of a fullback into an open-field threat."

"Texas' defense played so soft -- and hit the same, pawing at ballcarriers like lovesick teenagers -- you'd have thought Oklahoma played an exotic offense the Longhorns had never seen before."

"No defensive backs need to be calling it "DBU." Until further notice, fellas, that's still Dallas Baptist University."

" ... all the talk about which head coaching gig is up for Manny Diaz should hereby cease and desist. At the rate he's giving up yards and points, his next stop might be Bristol, Conn., his old ESPN stomping grounds."

That one tackle where 2 Texas defenders were in great shape and they both missed....

You, probably know the one I am talking about. Close to the sideline, one guy faceplants right into the ground, the other bounces off of the RB like he was a 150 pound guys trying to tackle a 2509 pound guy... the RB keeps running and goes for a long TD....

That's just really bad. Really, really bad. They said on college football final that this Texas defense could be the worst ever for Texas statistically.

October 14, 2012  10:45 AM ET

Hail yes, he is. The singlemost embarrassing win in an long time on TX turf. He gone.

October 14, 2012  10:46 AM ET

2509 pound guy!! Lol, I mean 250 pound, but still the same difference.

I would love to see Mack have an out-of-body experience over this one ...

1. Kick the LHN cameras out of the facility.
2. Put Akina in charge of the D and relegate Diaz to the DBs.
3. Put Harsin on the sidelines and Applewhite in the booth.
4. Put Diaz and Harsin on notice.
5. Practice fundamental tackling in practice. Anyone caught trying to "blow up" the opponent will be benched.
6. Make sure everyone understands that there is only ONE superstar on the team ... the head coach. Anyone who disagrees can take a seat on the bench for the rest of the year.
Tell Dodds to go play with Rex McCombs, Joe Jamail and Rex Tillerson and keep them out of the facility.

But none of this will happen.

All the Big 12 schools and fans want Mack Brown to coach at Texas forever as Mack has destroyed maybe the nations best football program overall.

Well, he did see it through to some golden moments. It's just that he's peaked and needs to go. Ain't gonna happen with him now.

TX had a great recruiting bump after Ricky Williams won the Heisman which led to the BCS championship run in '05, then another slight bump after VY, but position recruiting since then has been horrendous. Lack of depth at OL positions was becoming evident while Colt was still playing and it still isn't fixed. Being perennially thin at D line and LB positions should have been fixed by now as well. Our 4* & 5* DBs take bad angles and can't tackle. There is a lot wrong with this team right now but the rebuilding has been focused on 2013/2014 as the payoff year.
