Inside Adrian Peterson's remarkable comeback

09:06 AM ET 10.14 | The two men sat together in Russ Paine's Houston office, where the physical therapist listened to Adrian Peterson share his outlandish goals. Peterson wanted to be back on the field from reconstructive knee surgery within nine months, typical recovery timetables be damned. After they worked together for a week, Peterson had Paine believing he would do it. Less than 10 months after tearing the anterior and medial cruciate ligaments in his left knee in a Christmas Eve victory over the Washington Redskins, Peterson returns to the site of his injury on Sunday, Oct. 14, as the author of a remarkable recovery story. Paine has reminded Peterson that it will take a year for his knee to be completely healed, so in that sense, the running back's process isn't complete. There is still time for a setback -- though Peterson hasn't had one yet -- and his ability to remain healthy and productive over the next few seasons will be as big a part of the recovery as what he's done so far. But as he returns to Washington this weekend, Peterson already has proved plenty.

Almost as remarkable as that Notre Dame defense! Go Irish!

For his sake the therapist should have told him that he needs to start running around players instead of running over them like he use to.

The irony is I think he is a step slower but still getting it done. The other thing is the Vikes are using other backs to rest him and give them some time on the field too and its working.

That is true. My grampa had his hip replaced, and he recovered fast too. Just like with AP, Gramps lost a step but is still feared and a power to be reckoned with on the shuffleboard court..:P
