D.C. United is in the process of selling 19-year-old midfielder Bryan Arguez to Hertha Berlin of the German Bundesliga, the second player this offseason to be transferred by the MLS club to Europe. According to sources familiar with the deal, United and MLS will receive between $350,000 and $400,000 as well as financial considerations if Arguez is sold to another club in the future.

Who? Never heard of him, so I checked the DC roster--not there.

He's a GenAd player, so his roster spot doesn't count against the cap nor the regular man roster.

He's a VERY raw player. He has a lot of potential, but in the MLS, he'll ride the pine and not play much. Sure, he'll play reserve games, but the reserve league in the MLS is a bit of a joke. With Hertha, he'll likely be one of the first to come off the bench, or be a spot starter.

Would DC lose a potential good player? Yes. But he would never develop in a system where development is a crapshoot. Hertha has the money to properly develop the guy.

Anyone here read the Soccer Insider at the Washington Post website (where a lot of the news on this site comes from)? Its a very good read and its hilarious to see how upset the DCU faithful are about this. Not sure what pisses them off more, that they have a player that a decent sized Euro club is shelling money out for that never saw the field for them or that there coaching staff never gave him a chance on the field. They are comparing it to the Metrostars selling Bradley for like $200,000 a couple of years back.

Though, I actually agree with Hopper that this is probably a good move by DCU, as it gives the kid his opportunity in Europe and they get some money, though if he turns out to be as good as Bradley, then I'm sure they will rue the day they made the move.

yes, go to Europe and develop yourself properly and live ur DREAMZ!

anyway, a spot starter or bench at Berlin? yeah right. HE has alot better shot at playing in DC. He will be stuck on the Berlin reserve team for a year or so at least.

at only 19 he'll learn how to play with the men very quickly in the german league

jeevs BS SSSC: You must not have read the article. The Hertha front office believes he can start right away, which is why they're willing to spend $350k, despite being near bankruptcy.
